New World Development Company Limited (the “Group”; Hong Kong Stock Code: 00017) has been named as one of the ‘Best Companies to Work for in Asia 2016’ by HR Asia, one of the most authoritative trade journals in the region. This is the second year in a row that NWD has won this award which recognises the great efforts the Group has put forth to nurture a professional and dynamic work force brimming with commitment and pride
Initiated and guided by Adrian Cheng, Executive Vice-chairman and Joint General Manager of the Group, The Artisanal Movement, the Group’s new brand corporate personality encompassing five core elements: Imagination, Bespoke, Craftsmanship, Heritage and Contemporary was launched last year. This spirit has been infused into the Group’s projects, services, management style as well as the talent recruitment process. . To ensure that the employees are well-versed in the corporate culture to work towards company’s objectives, NWD has implemented the “Cultural Transformer” programme whereby employees are trained to become ”transformers” to conduct company visits at different business units of the Group. These “transformers” will explain Group culture and its application at work through interactive games. The “transformers” will also receive a certificate issued by the management in appreciation for their services.
Bespoke – one of the essential pillars of The Artisanal Movement, is embodied in the various care initiatives for our employees. NWD introduced “flexible health care benefits” to provide freedom for employees to use their benefits as they see fit. Under the scheme, employees can convert their benefits into “care points” that can be used for medical check-ups, subsidising medical fees for dependents or joining health classes. The Group recognises the importance of maintaining a proper work-life balance by introducing various family-friendly measures which include the ‘Inventing Your Future Education Sponsorship Scheme’ for employees’ children, plus family care leave, flexible working hours and parenting seminars. Other large-scale activities that promote family bonding include Group Fun Day, Family Open Day and employee tours.
Believing that everyone can be an artisan, a unique and innovative screening protocol has been introduced into both the Group’s Management Trainee Programme and Internship Programme to attract high-calibre and creative talent. Breaking away from traditional approaches, the Group taps the “New World Talent” Facebook Page to encourage prospective candidates to submit their creative work online. Through this creative screening mechanism, the Group hopes to recruit more artisans who can appreciate New World Development’s brand values.
‘The Best Companies to Work for in Asia 2016’ event was organised by HR Asia to promote talent training and development. Entries were evaluated by a professional panel of judges by conducting extensive employee surveys. After several rounds of deliberations, 21 companies were honoured with the top titles.
